Dear Mr. Apperson:

I have intended thanking you for the splendid pictures you sent but I have been out of town since receiving them so please accept my sincere thanks for your thoughtfulness as both Mrs. Cawley and myself were particularly glad to get them.

I saw Hatch in Baltimore the other day and he showed me a copy of his letter to you. You have now been officially notified of your election and according to our laws, notification by the Commodore or secretary makes your election valid. You will doubtless hear from Burnam about it soon and I would appreciate it if you would let me know as soon as you do.

With best wishes, I am,

Sincerely yours,

Jim Cawley
