Dear Apperson:
Mr. G. O. Knapp is very much alive. There must have been some very serious misunderstanding regarding his reported death. His wife, who is W. J.’s stepmother, died fairly recently, W. J.’s own mother having died when he was a very small child. I understand he was particularly fond of this stepmother. It may be that he referred to her death and your informant misunderstood. I have heard said that she was very fond of the Lake George Estate.
