Dear Mr. Apperson:

Enclosed is a clipping re the “88-acre shore front property on Lake Placid” just now acquired by gift for the Forest Preserve. The details are strangely reminiscent of your French Point and other Lake George projects.

One can’t help observing how this acquisition fits in with the proposed Whiteface Mountain ski trails development.

Just in case you have not seen the report issued by the State Department of Commerce last week on “The Paper and Pulp Industries of New York State; and Economic Analysis,” I am ending you a spare copy. It contains some disturbing economic assertions, together with recommendations as to opening up the Forest Preserve for pulpwood supplies, – suggestions that will surely be used and quoted as expert evidence in the next crop of “war measures” I presume is in the offing.

Sincerely yours,

Alvin G. Whitney (N Y State Museum)
