May 28, 1929 – JSA to Kermath Mfg, Co (Detroit, Michigan) –

Gentlemen:

I have one of your 70 or 80 HP, 4 cylinder engines in a Chris Craft Cadet, purchased year before last. I have been very much pleased with the performance.

Last year, however, on two occasions the valve springs broke, and in the Fall I had a complete new set put in. This week two more springs broke, and since my boat is used in rather inaccessible places on Lake George and often under adverse weather conditions, I am naturally desirous of remedying the trouble.

Will you please be kind enough to send me the kind of valve springs that you think are less liable to give me trouble, and also recommend some device which I myself might be able to use in replacing the valve spring when I cannot reach a service station?

I would very much appreciate your early attention to this inquiry.

Very truly yours,

JSApperson
