- July 29, 1925 – Edward R. Ames (Secretary to Mr. Peabody) to JSA –
Dear Mr. Apperson:
Mr. Peabody read with great satisfaction your good letter to the Lake George Mirror, and requests me to thank you for sending him a copy. He has written one himself, regarding the very outrageous attack on Miss Loines, of which I take pleasure in enclosing a copy herewith.
The writer is his New York secretary, for the summer occupying Mr. Peabody’s cottage on the Bolton Road, with the euphonious name, “MINONTIO.” This is about a mile and a quarter from the village. Mr. Peabody says that you are often in this neighborhood, and has suggested that possibly you might stop in for a chat some time. It is needless to say that it would give me very great pleasure to see you, if you can ever hit it off in this direction. We live a plain life with not too “high” thinking for summer weather – although yesterday we had a hail storm, and it looked more like winter. Should be mighty glad to see you, and we can always distill a cup of tea with a few accompanying cakes.
Very sincerely yours,
Edw. R. Ames
Secretary to Mr. Peabody
