- April 19, 1926 – Franklin D. Roosevelt (Warm Springs, Ga.) to JSA
Dear Appie:
Your letter has reached me down here where I am in the process of taking over this property and making it into a health and pleasure resort.
I am interested that Mr. Knapp has sold the land on the east side of Lake George to his son. It seems to me that there are 2 possible ways of approaching the Knapps. The first and most direct would be to have the Governor himself invite them to see him and talk to them in person. It seems to me that this would be very effective for you and I know the governor’s wonderful way of handling people. The other would be to find out who is very close to the Knapps and would be willing to talk to them.
You know that I am now the head of the Taconic State Park Commission and we propose to run a parkway from Westchester through to Rensselaer County to connect up with the Lake George and Lake Champlain routes somewhere ear the Saratoga battlefield. Before you and I die the State will have parks and parkways to be really proud of.
Always sincerely yours,
Franklin D. Roosevelt
